India is set to host the 2025 edition of the Quad Summit, with newly-elected U.S. President Donald Trump expected to attend, senior officials confirmed according to media reports. The announcement comes after a last-minute relocation of this year’s summit from New Delhi to New York.
Originally planned to be held in India this September, the Quad Summit—an influential grouping of the United States, India, Australia, and Japan—was moved to New York to accommodate the busy schedules of the leaders.
“When we were planning for this year’s Quad Summit, India was scheduled to host, but as we looked at all four of these leaders’ schedules, it became increasingly clear that the best way to make sure they met and had the time they wanted for these discussions was to host the summit here in the U.S. this weekend,” Mira Rapp-Hooper, Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania at the National Security Council had stated.
India, however, agreed to host the 2025 summit. Both countries confirmed the shift in scheduling, with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stating, “Following the request of the US side to host the Quad Summit this year, India has agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.”
This year’s summit saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the United States for a three-day trip in September. During his visit, Modi met with U.S. President Joe Biden , Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, engaging in high-level discussions on strategic partnerships, security issues, and economic cooperation among the Quad nations.
