The World Bank has appointed Dr. Zarau Wendeline Kibwe from Tanzania as the new Executive Director for the Africa One region, encompassing 22 countries, including her home nation.

The announcement was made during the Annual Meeting of the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., where it coincided with the meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prior to this role, Dr. Kibwe served as Deputy Executive Director, Senior Advisor, and Consultant at the World Bank for over seven years, beginning in 2017. The Minister of Finance, Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, who leads Tanzania’s delegation at the annual meetings, praised Dr. Kibwe’s selection.
