THREE people, including an eight-month-old baby, have died and two others have been injured in an accident that occurred at Mbwewe area in Chalinze Council, Bagamoyo District, Coast Region.
According to a press statement issued by the Coast Regional Police Commander (RPC) ACP Pius Lutumo, the accident occurred when a vehicle with registration number T 395 DWE, driven by Mohammed Athumani (40), a resident of Dar es Salaam, was heading to Kabuku in Tanga Region.
The vehicle collided with another vehicle with registration numbers T. 300 CLE / T. 399 AUP FAW, which was parked along the road by a driver identified as Alphonse Bosco (55), a resident of Mabawa, Tanga.
“It was the negligence of the driver of the vehicle with registration numbers T.300 CLE/ T.399 AUP FAW who parked the car along the road without putting road signs,” said RPC Lutumo.
The deceased have been identified as Zakia Mohammed (36), a teacher, Nadim Nurdin (8 months), and a girl identified only as Goletha (23). The bodies have been preserved at Mkata Hospital in Handeni District.
The injured individuals are Mohammed Athumani (40), the driver from Dar es Salaam, and Alice Sangule (8 years), a primary school student from Kabuku, Tanga. They are currently receiving treatment at Mkata Hospital in Handeni District.
