The Tanzanian government has tasked the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) with closely monitoring the construction of 15 oil storage tanks in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
This move aims to ensure the project meets high standards and is completed on time, which is crucial for the country’s energy infrastructure.
Transport Minister, Professor Makame Mbarawa, gave the instruction after visiting the construction site to review the progress. He highlighted that the project is vital for improving Tanzania’s oil storage capacity and enhancing fuel distribution efficiency.
“It’s essential that this project is finished on time and to the highest standards. We cannot afford delays or subpar work,” said Professor Mbarawa, stressing the importance of ensuring that the contractor adheres to both quality and safety protocols.
The minister also acknowledged the work done so far and noted that once complete, the new storage tanks would play a key role in securing Tanzania’s energy needs, particularly as the economy continues to grow and demand for energy increases.

This project is part of Tanzania’s broader initiative to modernize its infrastructure, especially in the energy sector. With increased storage capacity, the country will be better equipped to handle petroleum products, reducing dependency on imports and improving the efficiency of fuel distribution throughout the nation.
Professor Mbarawa expressed confidence in TPA’s ability to oversee the project effectively, emphasizing the authority’s expertise and resources. He assured the public that the government would continue to closely monitor the work to ensure it stays on track and meets all the necessary standards.
