Acting Inspector General of Police in Kenya, Douglas Kanja, has stated that the current situation in the country is unacceptable, particularly as it relates to planned protests by Gen Z youth. Kanja warned those planning to demonstrate today, July 23, 2024, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to abandon their plans immediately.
Speaking earlier today, Kanja said, “The situation in our country right now is not acceptable, and we will not tolerate it. Entering the airport without permission will not be allowed.
I want to remind all Kenyans that we have no other country called Kenya; this is the only one we have, and we all have a duty to ensure our country remains stable and peaceful.

Let us all take responsibility, knowing that there is no other Kenya anywhere else. Therefore, let us protect and safeguard it.”
It is worth noting that Kanja has assumed this role following President Ruto’s approval of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome’s resignation. This resignation came after protests against the 2024 Finance Bill, which resulted in several deaths.
President Ruto appointed Deputy IGP Douglas Kanja as the Acting Inspector General of Police to fill the position left vacant by Koome.
