The Member of Parliament (MP) representing Kahama Mjini constituency in the Shinyanga region, Jumanne Kishimba, has put forth a significant suggestion during a recent parliamentary session in Dodoma.
He has urged the government to introduce a comprehensive financial literacy program starting from the first grade, emphasizing the importance of teaching children how to earn and manage money from an early age.
In addition to advocating for financial literacy, Kishimba has also highlighted the necessity for an entrepreneurship curriculum. He believes that students should be equipped with a deep understanding of business and commerce, enabling them to develop the necessary skills to effectively manage their ventures in the future. By incorporating entrepreneurship education into the curriculum, young learners would be empowered to establish and sustain their industries, contributing to economic growth and self-reliance.

Kishimba’s recommendations were made during his contribution to the budget discussions of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology for the upcoming fiscal year of 2024/2025. He underscored the significance of providing students with practical knowledge and skills in financial management and entrepreneurship, recognizing the potential long-term benefits for both individuals and the country as a whole.
The proposal aims to address the lack of financial literacy and business acumen among Tanzanian youth, which can hinder their ability to navigate the complexities of the modern economy. By integrating financial literacy and entrepreneurship education into the academic system, Tanzania can foster a financially capable and business-savvy generation, equipped with the tools necessary to thrive in an increasingly competitive and dynamic global economy.
Kishimba’s vision aligns with international efforts to prioritize financial education in schools, recognizing its role in promoting economic stability and prosperity. If implemented, this initiative could have far-reaching implications for Tanzania’s future, empowering its youth to become active participants in the country’s economic development and growth.
