During the grand celebrations marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu experienced a brief but noticeable mishap as he boarded the parade vehicle at Eagles Square.

The incident occurred shortly after the President’s arrival at the venue, where he momentarily lost his footing while stepping onto the vehicle. Despite this minor slip, President Tinubu swiftly regained his balance and proceeded with the event without further incident.

The Democracy Day celebrations at Eagles Square are part of a series of events commemorating Nigeria’s 25 years of unbroken democratic rule. President Tinubu’s slip did not overshadow the significance of the day, which saw various dignitaries in attendance, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Femi Gbajabiamila, and several service chiefs and political figures

In his Democracy Day address, President Tinubu focused on national unity and the importance of democratic governance. He assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to improving the country’s socio-economic conditions, including an impending proposal for a new national minimum wage to the National Assembly.

The celebrations included a review of the Guard of Honour by President Tinubu, marking his first Democracy Day in office. The event is held annually on June 12 to honor the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola and other heroes of democracy who played pivotal roles in Nigeria’s transition from military rule to democracy

Despite the brief slip, the day’s events continued seamlessly, reflecting the resilience and spirit of Nigeria’s democratic journey.
