A total of 188,787 students, including 812 with special needs, have been chosen to enroll in Form Five, technical colleges, and middle cadre training institutions for the academic year 2024.
These students come from both public and private schools, as well as private candidates who completed their exams through the Institute of Adult Education.
The selection process, announced by Minister of State in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa, aligns with the 2014 Education and Training Policy revised in 2023 and the updated curriculum.
The minister highlighted, that all 188,787 eligible students, including 812 with special needs, have been selected to pursue studies in various fields at Form Five, technical colleges, and middle cadre training institutions.
Moreover, out of the qualified students, 131,986 – comprising 66,432 girls and 65,554 boys – have been selected to join Form Five and new schools opening this year. Additionally, a group of 1,462 students, including 669 girls and 793 boys, have been chosen to attend prestigious secondary schools known for admitting high-performing students.
Furthermore, 6,576 students will join Day Secondary Schools, while 123,948 students – with 62,636 girls and 61,312 boys – have been accepted into National Boarding Secondary Schools.

In terms of diploma courses at Technical Colleges under the National Council for Technical Education (NACTVET), 56,801 students – including 17,332 girls and 39,469 boys – have been assigned placements. Among them, 2,107 students will attend four Technical Colleges, such as Arusha Technical College (ATC) and Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT).
Moreover, 2,019 students have been selected to enroll in health colleges at the diploma level. Additionally, 52,675 students – consisting of 15,717 girls and 37,158 boys – have been chosen for various diploma courses in fields like agriculture and business at different technical education colleges across the country.
Mchengerwa assured that all eligible students have been successfully placed in schools and technical education colleges as part of the government’s commitment to providing services to all Tanzanians during this era of free education.
He expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her efforts in ensuring the availability of educational infrastructure that facilitated the selection of qualified students for Form Five and various colleges.
Term for Form Five students is set to commence on July 1 this year, with selected students expected to report to their respective schools starting from June 30. The deadline for reporting to schools is July 14, 2024.
