Iran has sharply responded to recent United States airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, declaring that these attacks have expanded the scope of legitimate military targets for its armed forces.
The country’s military spokesperson also criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, calling him a “gambler” for joining Israel’s ongoing campaign against the Islamic Republic.
Following Sunday’s bombing of key nuclear sites using powerful bunker-buster bombs, Iran has issued repeated threats of retaliation. While Tehran has launched missile strikes toward Israel, it has so far refrained from directly targeting U.S. military bases or disrupting vital maritime routes near the Gulf of Oman, a strategic chokepoint through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil shipments pass.
Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Military Headquarters, warned in a recorded statement: “Mr. Trump, the gambler, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it.”
As Iran and Israel exchanged further air strikes and missile attacks on Monday, the international community grew increasingly anxious about the risk of a wider conflict in an already volatile Middle East.

The Trump administration maintains that its objective is to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program and avoid a broader war. However, President Trump’s recent social media posts reveal a more aggressive stance. In a Sunday tweet, he suggested the possibility of regime change, writing, “It’s not politically correct to use the term ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”
Since the Iranian Revolution of 1979, Iran has been a principal adversary of the United States and its regional allies. The recent strikes represent one of the most serious escalations in Iran–United States relations in decades, raising concerns about the stability of the region.
