Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reiterated Beijing’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and should not be treated as a political bargaining chip.
His remarks come as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, with renewed clashes and humanitarian concerns dominating global discussions.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting, Wang emphasized China’s long-standing support for a two-state solution, advocating for the recognition of Palestine as an independent state alongside Israel. He criticized attempts to alter Gaza’s status or use it as leverage in negotiations, arguing that the Palestinian people have a legitimate right to self-determination.
“The Palestinian question is at the heart of the Middle East issue,” Wang said. “Gaza is not a bargaining chip. It belongs to the Palestinian people.”
His comments align with China’s broader diplomatic efforts to play a more active role in Middle Eastern affairs. In recent years, Beijing has sought to mediate peace discussions, facilitate intra-Palestinian dialogue, and promote stability in the region. In 2024, China hosted reconciliation talks between rival Palestinian factions, culminating in the “Beijing Declaration,” which called for unity and a clear political path toward a Palestinian state.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains a major concern, with ongoing hostilities causing significant displacement and destruction. The United Nations has repeatedly called for increased international aid to rebuild infrastructure and provide urgent assistance to those affected.

Wang stressed that China supports efforts to ease the humanitarian burden and restore normalcy to Palestinian territories.
China’s position on the conflict has drawn mixed reactions from the international community. While the European Union and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have expressed support for China’s diplomatic approach, other nations have taken a more cautious stance. The issue remains a contentious point in global politics, with different geopolitical interests shaping the responses of major powers.
By advocating for Palestinian rights and calling for peaceful resolutions, Beijing is positioning itself as a key player in international diplomacy. However, the road to a lasting peace remains uncertain, with numerous challenges ahead for both Palestine and the broader region.
