Tanzania has secured a landmark opportunity on the global stage after officially signing an agreement to host the 74th edition of the Miss World competition in 2027, a move expected to attract massive international attention and boost multiple sectors of the economy.

Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Makonda witnessed the signing ceremony and described the development as a historic achievement that places Tanzania among a select group of nations entrusted with hosting one of the world’s most prestigious beauty and cultural events.

According to officials, more than 130 countries are expected to participate in the 2027 edition, which will be broadcast live across international television networks, reaching an estimated audience of over two billion viewers worldwide.

The government estimates that the month-long event will bring at least 20,000 international visitors into the country, including contestants, delegates, media representatives, and tourists, significantly increasing foreign presence and economic activity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Makonda said the hosting rights represent far more than a beauty pageant, describing the event as a global platform for showcasing Tanzania’s tourism potential, cultural richness, creative industries, and investment opportunities.

He said the ripple effects are expected to benefit key sectors including tourism, agriculture, mining, and the creative arts industry, as international exposure increases interest in Tanzania as a destination for both business and leisure.

Experts note that large-scale international events of this nature often generate substantial economic benefits through hotel occupancy, transport services, hospitality, and local business engagement.e

Makonda further stated that Tanzania becomes only the second country in Africa to host the Miss World pageant after South Africa, and the first in East and Central Africa, marking a significant regional milestone.

He credited the achievement to long-term efforts to elevate Tanzania’s global profile, highlighting diplomatic engagement, cultural promotion, and international cooperation initiatives.

He also praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for what he described as consistent efforts to promote Tanzania globally, strengthen national unity, and expand development opportunities across sectors.

The 2027 Miss World event is expected to run for approximately one month and will include a series of high-profile activities. These will feature official welcome ceremonies, gala dinners for international guests, talent competitions, charity initiatives, fashion showcases, cultural exhibitions, and the grand finale.

Organizers say the extended program is designed not only to crown a winner but also to promote cultural exchange and tourism experiences across different regions of the host country.

Makonda urged stakeholders, including sponsors, organizers, and participating institutions, to ensure that the event is conducted with high levels of professionalism, integrity, and international standards.

He also encouraged contestants and stakeholders to uphold the dignity of the pageant and help reshape public perceptions of beauty competitions by emphasizing their role in empowerment, cultural exchange, and global networking.

With preparations now underway, Tanzania is set to enter a global spotlight that could significantly reshape its international image. Analysts say the success of the event will depend on infrastructure readiness, security coordination, and effective event management.

If successfully executed, the Miss World 2027 edition could position Tanzania as a rising hub for international events in Africa, strengthening its tourism brand and opening new doors for investment and cultural diplomacy.
