Tanzania remained calm on July 7 despite online calls for nationwide protests, with authorities saying the country experienced no major security incidents as citizens continued with their normal economic and social activities.

In a statement issued after the day, the Tanzania Police Force said the security situation across the country remained peaceful and stable, assuring the public that law enforcement agencies would continue safeguarding lives and property.

The day had drawn heightened public attention following social media calls urging demonstrations in different parts of the country. However, businesses, public institutions and transport services largely continued to operate, while thousands of people attended the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, one of Tanzania’s largest annual trade exhibitions.

Police said they worked closely with other security agencies to enhance security in strategic locations nationwide, describing the deployments as precautionary measures intended to preserve public order and reassure citizens.

Authorities also urged the public to use social media responsibly, warning against the spread of false or inflammatory information that could threaten peace or public safety. They emphasized that official information on security matters should come from authorised government institutions.

In Mwanza, Regional Police Commander Wilbrod Mutafungwa said security had been reinforced across key areas to ensure residents could continue their daily activities without disruption.

He said the increased police presence was part of routine preventive policing and should not be interpreted as a sign of insecurity, while warning that authorities remained prepared to take legal action against anyone seeking to disrupt public order.

The government’s security response came after several days of heightened political attention surrounding online mobilisation efforts ahead of July 7. Officials had maintained that enhanced security measures were necessary to protect public safety and ensure national stability.

With the day concluding without major reported unrest, authorities said Tanzania remained peaceful, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining law and order while encouraging citizens to continue their daily activities normally.
