Tanzania Pioneers African-Korean Film Collaboration

South Korea has chosen Tanzania as its inaugural partner in Africa for a collaborative movie venture. The announcement came from South Korean Film President YANG Jongkon during his meeting with prominent Tanzanian actors in Busan, the global hub of filmmaking.

President YANG praised Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her efforts in bridging the gap between Tanzania’s film market and Korea. He declared Tanzania as their first choice upon entering the African market, emphasizing ongoing efforts to strengthen Asian cinema dominance before focusing on Africa.

During their tour of South Korea, Tanzanian artists visited major studios in Busan, experiencing firsthand the production of beloved Korean dramas that have captivated global audiences.

President YANG expressed his intention to visit Tanzania alongside Korean filmmakers, further cementing cultural ties and exploring mutual opportunities.

“We are grateful for the generous support from President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” remarked Steve Nyerere, leader of the Tanzanian delegation, as he received a token of appreciation from the Korean envoy.

This collaboration promises to not only enhance Tanzania’s cinematic landscape but also foster a deeper cultural exchange between the two nations. As preparations for this groundbreaking partnership continue, Tanzania anticipates a new era in filmmaking, marked by international collaboration and artistic innovation.
