Tanzania has secured hosting rights for the Miss World pageant for three consecutive years beginning in 2027, in a move officials say is expected to boost tourism, international visibility and cultural exchange.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, during a parliamentary session on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Dodoma, while presenting the ministry’s estimates of revenue and expenditure for the 2026/27 financial year.

Makonda told lawmakers that organisers of the global beauty competition had agreed to award Tanzania hosting rights for three successive editions, making the country one of the few in Africa to host the event on a multi-year basis.

He said the development reflects growing international confidence in Tanzania as a destination for major global events and cultural activities.

According to the minister, the agreement is expected to position Tanzania as a regional hub for international tourism, creative industries, and cultural diplomacy, while also attracting investment in hospitality and related sectors.

The Miss World pageant is one of the world’s most recognised international beauty competitions, bringing together contestants from more than 100 countries each year and drawing significant global media attention.

Officials say hosting the event could provide a major boost to Tanzania’s tourism sector, which continues to recover and expand following global disruptions in recent years, while also strengthening the country’s branding as a safe and attractive destination for international gatherings.

Makonda noted that the initiative aligns with broader government efforts to promote the creative economy, including film, music, sports, and cultural heritage industries, as key drivers of employment and foreign exchange earnings.

If successfully implemented, Tanzania would become one of the few African countries to host the pageant for multiple consecutive editions, alongside previous hosts such as South Africa, which has staged the event in the past.

The announcement was made as part of the ministry’s budget presentation for the upcoming financial year, during which officials outlined plans to expand Tanzania’s global cultural footprint and increase participation in international events.

Further details on venues, dates, and logistical arrangements are expected to be released closer to the 2027 edition.
