Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the natural resources and tourism sectors, recognizing their essential role in driving Tanzania’s economic growth.

Speaking in Arusha on Friday, December 20, 2024, during the launch of the Conservation and Tourism Awards at Mount Meru Hotel, Majaliwa explained that the country’s natural resources and tourism were vital to economic development, providing employment and contributing to national wealth. The launch of the awards aims to foster friendly competition among industry stakeholders, encouraging them to raise the standards of conservation and tourism practices.

Majaliwa underscored the importance of preserving the country’s rich wildlife and natural environment, noting that they not only attract millions of tourists annually but also serve as essential economic assets. “Our wildlife and natural resources are among the most valuable gifts we have, and protecting them is vital for our future,” he stated.

The Prime Minister shared that the government would continue to invest in policies that support conservation and tourism. He also highlighted several government initiatives to enhance the tourism industry, including improvements to infrastructure and the creation of new attractions. These efforts, Majaliwa said, are designed to maintain Tanzania’s position as a leading eco-tourism destination in Africa.

He emphasized that the growth of the tourism sector would create new opportunities for Tanzanians, particularly in rural areas. “By supporting tourism, we’re also empowering local communities to benefit directly from it,” Majaliwa added.

The event marked a significant moment in the country’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism and environmental protection, inspiring stakeholders to work together for a better future.
