South Korea, Ghana, and Sweden are set to participate in the upcoming 3rd Blue Economy Conference (BEC) scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam from July 11 to 13 this year.
Dr. Tumaini Gurumo, the Director of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI), announced to journalists in Dar es Salaam that the conference is being organized in partnership with the Regional Maritime University of Ghana with the aim of advancing the blue economy in Africa. The conference will center around four key areas.
The event aims to bring together stakeholders from academic institutions, banking and finance sectors, shipping companies, and government bodies under the theme: ‘Navigating the Future: Integrating Maritime Safety and Security, Climate Change Actions, and Technological Advancements for the Blue Economy’.
Dr. Tumaini extended a warm invitation to Tanzanians, including ministries responsible for the blue economy, education, and maritime stakeholders, to collaborate with DMI as preparations for the conference are currently ongoing.
Highlighting that nearly 90 percent of international trade relies on maritime transport, Dr. Tumaini emphasized the importance of ensuring protection and security at sea to facilitate smooth operations and adapt to technological advancements in the transportation sector.
She expressed gratitude to the sixth phase government led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan for fostering economic diplomacy, which has played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the upcoming conference.
