Police in northern Tanzania are investigating the mysterious death of businessman Sifaeli Christofa Mollel, whose decomposed body was discovered inside a house linked to an alleged traditional healer in Arusha, days after he was reported missing.

The case has sparked widespread concern in the city and raised troubling questions over the circumstances surrounding the death of the 48-year-old businessman, who disappeared on May 3 before his body was discovered a week later in the Muriet area of Arusha City.

Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives work to establish how Mollel died, who may have been involved, and whether the incident was connected to robbery, ritual practices, or other criminal activity.

According to police sources and relatives, the body was found inside a room containing items associated with traditional healing activities, alongside documents carrying names different from that of the deceased — a discovery investigators say has complicated the case and intensified public speculation.

Mr Mollel, a resident of Kijenge Street in Arusha, had reportedly gone missing without explanation, prompting relatives and friends to launch a public search campaign through social media and community networks.

Relatives now believe the businessman may have visited the property as a client shortly before his death, with some family members expressing fears that he may have been attacked, robbed, or deliberately lured to the location.

The mystery surrounding the case deepened further after reports emerged that Mollel’s mobile phone allegedly continued receiving calls days after the discovery of the body, with signals reportedly traced in different locations, raising questions about possible attempts to conceal evidence or interfere with the investigation.

Police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death or announced any arrests linked to the incident. However, investigators say forensic examinations and intelligence-led inquiries are continuing as authorities seek to reconstruct the businessman’s final movements before his disappearance.

The case has generated intense debate across social media platforms in Tanzania, where users have called for a transparent investigation and stronger scrutiny of criminal activities operating under the cover of traditional healing practices.

Security analysts say the incident highlights broader concerns over unresolved disappearances, violent crime, and the challenges investigators face in complex cases involving multiple locations and delayed discovery of bodies.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue, warning that speculation could interfere with forensic procedures and legal processes.
