In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots leadership infrastructure and improving public service delivery, the Deputy Mayor of Dar es Salaam, who also serves as the elected councillor for Kinyerezi Ward, John Ryoba Mrema, has officially launched the construction of a new modern political office for the ruling party at the ward level.

The project was marked by the handover of key construction materials, including bricks and sand, signaling the beginning of a development pledge Mrema made to residents during the previous local government elections. The initiative is intended to replace the old ward office, which for years has suffered from poor conditions, limited space, and an environment that made it difficult to host meetings or receive visitors.

Addressing residents during the ceremony, Mrema stressed that leadership should be measured by action rather than words. He explained that the old office building will be preserved as a historical structure, while a new modern facility will be constructed beside it to meet today’s administrative needs and serve the growing population of Kinyerezi more effectively.

“This project reflects our commitment to real development,” Mrema said. “When people trust us with leadership, we must deliver results that improve their daily lives.”

Local party leaders welcomed the move, describing it as a strong example of practical governance. Athman Abasi Mwakibuka, the party chairperson in Kinyerezi Ward, praised the Deputy Mayor for fulfilling his promise, noting that improved office facilities would enhance organization, coordination, and service to residents.

Large crowds of community members attended the event, some offering help in clearing the construction area and arranging materials. Many residents said the new office would create a better space for community dialogue, development planning, and engagement between leaders and citizens.

In his remarks, Mrema outlined a broader development vision for Kinyerezi over the next five years, promising continued investment in infrastructure and social services. He encouraged fellow leaders to prioritize delivery over empty promises, saying public trust grows when leaders act.

The ward’s Ideology and Publicity Secretary, Sophia Musa Mwijuma, emphasized the importance of cooperation between residents and leaders, describing the project as a symbol of unity and shared progress. She praised Mrema as a committed leader who puts community needs first.

The development reflects the long-standing grassroots approach of Chama Cha Mapinduzi, which focuses on strengthening local leadership structures as a foundation for national progress.

Experts note that strengthening ward-level institutions plays an important role in promoting sustainable development, as effective local governance improves service delivery and community participation.

As construction gets underway, expectations remain high among Kinyerezi residents, many of whom view the project as a clear sign of responsive leadership. For them, the new office represents more than a building — it is a step toward better organization, stronger leadership access, and meaningful development at the community level.
