Mixed Weather Conditions Expected Across Tanzania

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority has issued a new national forecast showing that much of the country will experience a blend of cloud cover, sunshine and scattered rainfall over the coming days, as shifting seasonal winds continue to shape local weather conditions.

In the Lake Victoria zone and surrounding regions — including Kagera, Mwanza, Geita, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Mara, Kigoma and Tabora — residents should expect partly cloudy skies and intervals of sunshine, with showers expected in select areas. Though the rainfall will not be widespread, forecasters caution that isolated downpours may occur, especially during late afternoon and evening hours.

Along the coast and island areas, including Dar es Salaam, Pwani, Tanga, Unguja and Pemba, light rain is anticipated alongside sunny breaks. These areas traditionally feel the influence of changing monsoon winds, which often determine the timing and intensity of coastal showers. Communities engaged in fishing and small-scale marine transport are advised to remain attentive to local updates, as sea conditions may shift quickly.

Further inland, in regions such as Morogoro, Dodoma, Singida, Manyara, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Rukwa, Mbeya, Njombe, Iringa, Songwe and Lindi, the outlook points to moderately cloudy conditions with consistent periods of sunshine. Temperatures across major towns are expected to range between 23°C and 33°C, while sunrise and sunset patterns remain stable for this time of the year.

Coastal winds are expected to blow at about 20 km/h — from the southeast along the northern shoreline and from the northeast along the southern coast — a typical pattern during the transitional period between seasonal systems.

Meteorologists note that this period often brings fluctuating weather, especially during the short-rains season, when dry intervals abruptly shift to brief but intense showers. While most regions are expected to experience manageable conditions, the forecast serves as a reminder for communities to stay alert, particularly in areas prone to sudden rainfall or strong gusts.

Agricultural zones may benefit from the pattern of alternating sun and rain, which is favorable for ongoing field activities. However, experts advise farmers to monitor updates closely, given that rainfall distribution is often uneven at this time of year.

Authorities encourage residents across the country to follow official advisories and rely on verified forecasts as conditions continue to evolve. With much of Tanzania now transitioning deeper into the seasonal rainfall period, weather fluctuations are expected to continue — making timely updates essential for planning, travel and daily life.
