This move aims to deepen the already strong bilateral relations between Tanzania and Italy, particularly in areas like trade, development cooperation, education, and tourism.
June 18, 2025

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has made important leadership appointments in Tanzania’s public institutions, reflecting her commitment to strengthening vital sectors including health and diplomacy.

Among the notable changes, Dr. Delilah Kimambo has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital, Tanzania’s leading referral hospital. She takes over from Professor Mohamed Janabi, who recently assumed the role of World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa — a prestigious position that highlights Tanzania’s growing influence in global health leadership.

Dr. Kimambo brings extensive experience in clinical practice and hospital administration. Her appointment comes at a critical time as Muhimbili National Hospital continues efforts to modernize its services, improve patient care, and expand specialized medical treatments across the country.

In diplomatic affairs, President Samia has appointed Ambassador Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk as Tanzania’s new envoy to Italy. This move aims to deepen the already strong bilateral relations between Tanzania and Italy, particularly in areas like trade, development cooperation, education, and tourism.

Ambassador Mbarouk, a seasoned diplomat and former parliamentarian, will represent Tanzania’s interests in Rome and work to enhance strategic partnerships that support the nation’s development goals. Italy remains an important ally in Europe, with ongoing collaborations across multiple sectors.

These appointments align with President Samia’s broader vision of efficient and accountable governance. Since taking office, she has emphasized the importance of placing capable and reform-minded leaders in key institutions to drive Tanzania’s socio-economic progress, in line with the Tanzania Development Vision 2025.
