Luhaga Mpina, the Member of Parliament for Kisesa, has taken his parliamentary suspension to court in a high-stakes legal battle.

The hearing commenced on July 30, 2024, as he seeks to challenge his suspension from attending 15 parliamentary sessions. This case, which Mpina filed in the High Court’s Small Claims Division in Dar es Salaam, targets the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Tulia Ackson, and the Attorney General, Dr. Eliezer Feleshi

Mpina’s legal team comprises over 100 lawyers, including prominent attorneys such as Edson Kilatu and Dr. Rugemeleza Nshala. They argue that the suspension was not only against parliamentary rules but also violated Mpina’s rights. The legal action also extends beyond this suspension issue, as Mpina’s team has filed additional cases involving other high-profile figures in the government. One of these cases involves alleged illegal sugar importation and targets key ministers such as Agriculture Minister Hussein Bashe and Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba

Despite facing suspension, Mpina remains determined, stating that this fight is not just about him but about constitutional adherence for all Tanzanians.
