Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, has sternly warned health secretaries across the nation to perform their duties with confidence, integrity, and professionalism, adhering to existing guidelines, regulations, and procedures to avoid conflicts and complaints within their respective institutions.
Dr. Mollel issued the caution in Arusha City while representing Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Dotto Biteko at the opening of the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Health Secretaries in the country.
Dr. Mollel stated that health secretaries at all levels of healthcare service delivery have brought about significant achievements and transformations within the health sector in Tanzania.
“The number of colleges offering training for the Health Secretary cadre has increased, which is a testament to the importance of this cadre in healthcare facilities nationwide,” said Mollel.
Additionally, Dr. Mollel has directed the Ministry of Health to clearly delineate the roles and responsibilities of Personnel Officers and Health Secretaries in Regional Referral Hospitals to prevent conflicts in service delivery.

“This issue should be taken seriously, and a quick resolution is necessary, as both of these cadres are essential; their conflicts, however, cause significant harm to the staff and patients seeking services in these institutions,” stated Dr. Mollel.
Dr. Mollel emphasized that Health Secretaries are the custodians of healthcare resources and supplies, and they are expected to undertake preparations to educate the public on the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure its successful implementation and positive outcomes.
The Deputy Minister’s stern warning underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the management of the health sector, with the aim of addressing challenges faced by citizens in accessing quality and timely healthcare services.
