The dispensary in Leguruki Village, located in King’ori Ward within the Meru District Council, is set to be upgraded to a health center by the 2025/26 fiscal year.
This initiative aims to serve over 20,000 residents who currently travel more than 44 kilometers to access healthcare services.
Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, announced this plan during his visit to Leguruki Village on January 9, 2025.
He emphasized the importance of addressing healthcare accessibility challenges for residents in the area.
Dr. Mollel highlighted that the establishment of a health center will be a significant relief for the community and urged the council to include the project in its 2025/26 fiscal plan.
He noted that President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has made substantial investments in improving the health sector to ensure all citizens have access to quality healthcare close to their homes.

“The people of Leguruki deserve a health center to eliminate the burden of traveling long distances for medical services,” said Dr. Mollel.
Earlier, Arumeru District Commissioner, Mr. Amiri Mkalipa, emphasized the need for the health center and additional infrastructure, including outpatient buildings, laboratories, maternity and child care units, a drug store, patient wards, and a radiology unit.
Mr. Mkalipa urged Dr. Mollel to expedite the construction process, pointing out that the high costs of seeking services in distant areas strain the residents.
The proposed Leguruki Health Center is expected to benefit approximately 21,256 residents by providing healthcare services closer to their homes. This development will reduce costs, minimize travel distances, and improve access to healthcare, enhancing the quality of life for the local population.
