The situation of rain continues to be a threat in Tanzania, as we witness hardships in many areas of the country, such as the destruction of houses, livestock, roads, schools, and hospitals, leaving people in tears as they lose valuable possessions, including where they sleep after many worldly activities.

Asha Iddy, a food vendor, acknowledges the challenge of food selling areas being damaged due to heavy rains, causing customers to flee to safer places.

Juma Abdullah, a clothing seller in Kariakoo, says that the heavy rains have resulted in fewer customers, especially those afraid of getting wet while looking for goods outside the store.

“Truly, the rain has paralyzed us. We have no choice now. We are left helpless, trying to educate our children and take care of our families. Honestly, we have nothing to do, and you cannot stop God’s will. If He decides to rain, let it rain,” said Juma Abdullah, a clothing trader at Kariakoo.

Apart from business, another severely affected area by the rain is the road infrastructure, making it even more difficult for customers to enter on foot or by car to access various services in Kariakoo stores.

Hassan Ali, a clothing trader in Kariakoo, confirms this.

“Indeed, the roads have become terrible. It’s really bad. Customers are unable to come inside mainly because of the potholes filled with water. This is truly tough,” said Hassan.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has stated that during the rainy season, heavy rainfall periods may occur, causing floods and significant property loss. These rains will not only affect infrastructure but also other sectors including the economy and business in general.
