Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Dk. Mwigulu Nchemba, joined African heads of state, senior diplomats, global investors and development partners at a high-profile state dinner in Nairobi on Monday evening as the Africa Forward Summit opened with renewed calls for stronger economic cooperation between Africa and France.

The official dinner, hosted in the Kenyan capital, served as both a diplomatic engagement and a symbolic display of the growing political and commercial relationships shaping Africa’s future economic direction. Leaders attending the gathering emphasized the need for deeper partnerships in trade, infrastructure, technology, innovation and industrial development at a time when African economies are seeking greater resilience amid global uncertainty.

During the event, Dr. Nchemba was photographed alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Kenyan President William Ruto and Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto, reflecting Tanzania’s expanding role in regional and international diplomacy.

The summit, taking place in Nairobi, has attracted policymakers, entrepreneurs, financial institutions and multinational investors from across Africa and Europe. Organizers say the forum is intended to strengthen long-term cooperation between African nations and France through strategic investment partnerships and innovation-driven economic growth.

Speakers at the gathering highlighted Africa’s rapidly growing youth population, expanding digital economy and vast natural resources as major opportunities for future global investment. However, several delegates also stressed that sustainable development would require improved infrastructure, stronger institutions, enhanced access to financing and policies that encourage local industrialization rather than dependency on raw material exports.

French President Emmanuel Macron used the occasion to reaffirm France’s commitment to supporting African-led development initiatives, particularly in renewable energy, climate resilience and technology-driven entrepreneurship. His participation comes at a time when European nations are competing to strengthen their influence and economic presence across Africa amid rising geopolitical competition from China, the Gulf states and other emerging global powers.

For East Africa, the summit carries added significance as countries across the region continue pushing ambitious infrastructure and economic integration projects designed to position the bloc as one of Africa’s fastest-growing investment destinations.

Tanzania has increasingly positioned itself as a key regional economic player through investments in transport infrastructure, energy projects and trade expansion initiatives aimed at linking East and Central African markets. Analysts say Prime Minister Nchemba’s participation at the summit reflects Dar es Salaam’s broader strategy of attracting foreign investment while strengthening diplomatic and commercial partnerships with major global economies.

The Africa Forward Summit is expected to continue over the coming days with closed-door meetings, investment discussions and policy forums focusing on digital transformation, climate financing, manufacturing, cross-border trade and employment creation for Africa’s growing population.
