Tanzania continues to rank among Africa’s safest countries, Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, has confirmed, highlighting the professionalism of the Police Force and close collaboration with other security and defence agencies.

Speaking in Dodoma on January 28, 2026, during his first official visit to the Tanzania Police Force headquarters since assuming office, Minister Katambi said the country’s security environment remains stable. He emphasized that the government is committed to strengthening security systems to ensure the peace currently enjoyed by Tanzanians is preserved.

“The Police Force plays a vital role in safeguarding lives and property while ensuring the law is applied fairly,” Minister Katambi said. He noted that collaboration with other defence institutions has been key in maintaining safety in both urban and rural areas.

During the visit, Minister Katambi was joined by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohamed Mahmoud, and the Ministry’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, Miriam Mmbaga. The delegation met with senior police officials to discuss measures for improving operational efficiency, rapid response to emergencies, and community-based policing strategies.

Experts say Tanzania’s strong security record is the result of several factors, including well-trained police officers, adoption of modern security technologies, and proactive engagement with local communities. Public confidence in law enforcement has increased as officers work closely with citizens to address security concerns.

Minister Katambi also stressed that the government will continue investing in infrastructure, officer training, and technology to respond effectively to evolving security challenges. “Peace is a collective responsibility. While the government ensures law and order, citizens also play a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment,” he added.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has been implementing reforms aimed at professionalizing the police service, enhancing accountability, and strengthening coordination with regional and international security agencies. These efforts aim to maintain Tanzania’s reputation as a safe destination for residents, investors, and tourists alike.

Observers note that Tanzania’s emphasis on collaboration, community policing, and capacity-building positions it as a model for security management in Africa, particularly in a region where many countries face growing safety challenges.
