Tanzania’s Minister for Water, Jumaa Aweso, has urged employees in the water sector to demonstrate the confidence placed in them by President Samia Suluhu Hassan by delivering services that produce tangible results for citizens.

His remarks follow his official reception in Dodoma after assuming office alongside the Deputy Minister for Water, Engineer Kundo Mathew.

Speaking at the ministry’s headquarters in the Government City of Mtumba, Aweso emphasized the importance of aligning the ministry’s work with the priorities set out in the President’s address and the broader expectations of the Tanzania government.

He called on ministry staff to intensify their work ethic, creativity and sense of responsibility to ensure that clean and safe water services reach all communities in a timely and reliable manner. He noted that the water sector carries significant national importance, as it directly affects the health, livelihoods and economic stability of every citizen.

Aweso reminded employees that dedication to public duty carries its own reward, urging them to work with unity, integrity and speed to maintain the ministry’s ambitious momentum. He further underlined that the implementation of water projects must be executed with both quality and urgency, noting that access to safe water remains a critical foundation for national development.

Deputy Minister Kundo Mathew echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of grounding policies and performance indicators in factual and verifiable data. He urged staff members to strengthen the reliability of official statistics and ensure that documented achievements correspond to real improvements in the field. He added that reducing public complaints and improving service delivery must remain a priority at all levels.

“The progress we aim for will not come by chance. It will be achieved through hard work, discipline, strong planning and effective management of resources,” Mathew said, adding that ministry leaders rely on the commitment and capacity of the workforce to achieve national goals.

Permanent Secretary Mwajuma Waziri commended both leaders for their continued dedication and leadership, assuring them that ministry management and the entire workforce remain committed to supporting the fulfillment of government policies and the objectives of the Sixth Phase Administration.

She noted that the ministry will continue strengthening structures and strategies that enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability in service provision. Her remarks highlighted the crucial role of a well-coordinated public service in sustaining long-term national development.
