Tanzania is preparing for a historic moment as Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, recently appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and confirmed by Parliament, is scheduled to be sworn in as the country’s 12th Prime Minister tomorrow at Chamwino State House in Dodoma.
The announcement was confirmed by Secretary to the Cabinet, Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, who emphasized that the ceremony will mark the formal beginning of Nchemba’s tenure.
Nchemba’s appointment comes at a critical time for Tanzania, as the government navigates the post-election period following the October 29 general elections. Parliament gave its overwhelming approval for Nchemba’s leadership, with 369 out of 371 votes cast in his favor, reflecting strong legislative confidence in his ability to implement national priorities.
Even before his formal swearing-in, Nchemba has outlined a clear agenda for his administration. Central to his vision is the implementation of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2025‑2050, a strategic framework aimed at transforming the nation’s socio-economic landscape. He has pledged to prioritize job creation, especially for the youth, aiming to generate eight million employment opportunities across diverse sectors.
The incoming Prime Minister has also signaled a renewed commitment to good governance. He warned public servants that inefficiency, negligence, and corruption would no longer be tolerated.

“Every citizen deserves timely, respectful, and ethical service,” Nchemba said, emphasizing that professionalism, accountability, and integrity must define the culture of public service. His office aims to ensure that all government departments operate as safe and respectful spaces for citizens, where their voices are heard and needs addressed promptly.
Political analysts note that Nchemba assumes office at a pivotal juncture for Tanzania. The country faces both domestic and regional expectations for strong, results-oriented leadership. Observers are closely watching how his administration will handle pressing issues such as unemployment, poverty reduction, and public-sector reform, which are essential to fostering political stability and economic growth.
Nchemba’s academic background as an economist, combined with his experience in key government roles, is expected to bring analytical rigor to economic planning and policy implementation.
