President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming October 29, 2025 general elections,
assuring citizens that the only “march” expected on that day will be the peaceful one towards polling stations.
Addressing a lively crowd at a campaign rally in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, the Head of State — who is also the presidential candidate of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) — encouraged supporters to embrace peace, unity, and civic responsibility as the nation heads into the election season.
“The only demonstration we want to see,” she told cheering supporters, “is every Tanzanian walking proudly to the polling station to cast their vote.”
Her message came as the country’s political atmosphere continues to heat up ahead of what promises to be a closely watched election. President Samia used the occasion to rally the party’s grassroots leaders — including local cell and branch representatives — to mobilize voters, especially women and youth, and ensure a strong voter turnout.
She emphasized that development, stability, and progress depend on citizens fulfilling their democratic duty. “Voting is the voice of the people. Let us show our strength through the ballot, not through unrest,” she said.

The Kinondoni rally highlighted key issues in Samia’s campaign, including infrastructure, health, education, and improved public services in Dar es Salaam and across the country. She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to enhancing transport systems, expanding access to clean water, and creating more employment opportunities for young people.

Analysts note that the message of peace and discipline echoes the traditional values of Tanzania’s political history — a reminder of the nation’s long-standing emphasis on unity and order. Her call for calm comes amid growing interest from international observers and civil society groups monitoring the pre-election environment.
According to reports, preparations for the 2025 Tanzanian general election are in their final stages, with campaigns from both the ruling party and opposition groups intensifying across the country. Election authorities have also urged citizens to verify their voter registration details early to avoid last-minute confusion.
As the countdown to October 29 continues, President Samia’s message remains clear: the most powerful protest is a peaceful vote. Her appeal for calm, discipline, and participation aims to strengthen national unity and ensure that democracy is exercised with dignity.
In her words: “Let our footsteps to the polling stations be the only demonstration of our patriotism.”
