President Samia Suluhu Hassan has commended the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) for its remarkable contribution to the country’s farming sector, highlighting its direct role in empowering farmers and strengthening agricultural growth nationwide.

Speaking at the national Nane Nane celebrations held at Nzuguni Grounds, the Head of State applauded the bank’s outstanding performance, stating that it has not only provided critical financial support to Tanzanian farmers but also committed to becoming the main sponsor of the Nane Nane exhibition for the next five years.

“The good performance of this bank has enabled it to support our farmers effectively and to commit to sponsoring this important event for the next half-decade,” President Samia told the gathering of stakeholders, farmers, and government officials.

The annual Nane Nane exhibitions, which run from August 1 to August 8 every year, celebrate the contributions of Tanzanian farmers, livestock keepers, and fishers. This year’s theme — “Choose Good Leaders for Sustainable Development of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries 2025” — reflects the national push for sustainable growth through accountable leadership and technological innovation in rural development.

TADB’s role has been pivotal in bridging the financing gap for smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and agricultural enterprises. The bank has disbursed significant funding to enable access to quality seeds, modern equipment, and training — aligning with Tanzania’s long-term development goals under Vision 2025.

President Samia urged other financial institutions and private sector actors to emulate the example of TADB by investing in agricultural transformation, saying such involvement is crucial for ensuring inclusive economic growth and rural prosperity.

Farmers and exhibitors at Nane Nane praised the event for providing a platform to exchange knowledge and showcase new innovations. Many expressed optimism about the future of agriculture in the country, particularly with sustained support from financial institutions and the government.

The Nane Nane fair — meaning “Eight Eight” in Swahili, referencing its August 8 climax — remains one of the most important agricultural events in East Africa, drawing participation from across the region and beyond. It not only celebrates farming as a livelihood but also promotes collaboration between policymakers, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
