After years of struggling with water shortages, residents in Kinyerezi, Tabata, Bonyokwa, and Ubungo can finally look forward to a steady and reliable supply as authorities near completion of a major water distribution project.
Speaking to journalists, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA), Engineer Mkama Bwire, confirmed that the long-awaited project is now in its final stages. He announced that power infrastructure is in place, thanks to the recent installation of a transformer at the Kibamba water transmission station.
“With the progress we’ve made, I can confidently say the project is 99 percent complete,” Engineer Bwire said. “We expect to start supplying water to these areas by February 20.”
The multi-billion shilling project has involved constructing water reservoirs, laying extensive distribution pipelines, and installing high-capacity pumps to boost water pressure and ensure a consistent flow to affected neighborhoods.

For years, many households in these areas have endured unpredictable water supply, relying on alternative sources that are often costly and inconvenient. With the completion of this project, residents are hopeful that they will no longer have to struggle for access to clean and safe water.
Authorities have assured the public that final testing is underway, and once operational, the system will significantly improve water availability.
