Effective immediately, passengers must present their National Identification Card (NIDA) when purchasing tickets. The ID will be scanned at both departure and arrival points to ensure authenticity and prevent illegal resale of tickets.
TRC’s Head of Communications, Jamila Mbarouk, stated that this initiative is designed to address the persistent issue of ticket fraud. “By requiring ID verification, we aim to curb ticket manipulation and ensure a fair system for all travelers,” Mbarouk said.
The implementation follows recent incidents where individuals were caught in fraudulent activities, including booking tickets for short journeys but traveling longer distances without paying the extra fare. The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has also identified schemes involving the illegal resale of tickets at inflated prices.

Additionally, those purchasing tickets for others must now provide the corresponding IDs for verification. This step is intended to further deter fraudulent practices.
The TRC is also working to resolve technological challenges associated with the new system. Enhancements to ticketing infrastructure are underway to support the smooth operation of the SGR and address any issues that might arise during the transition.
Passengers are urged to comply with the new requirements to help ensure a more transparent and efficient ticketing process.
