President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has dismissed the country’s ambassador to South Africa, Mazuba Monze, after serious allegations of misconduct came to light.
The accusations involve Monze reportedly requesting inappropriate personal grooming tasks from male staff members at the Zambian Embassy in Pretoria, which caused a significant uproar.
Monze allegedly asked her male employees to shave her private parts, a request the staff firmly rejected, stating that such tasks were completely outside of their duties. In response to their refusal, Monze reportedly fired the workers, considering their actions as insubordination.
The dismissed staff members, however, appealed the decision and raised their concerns with Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As the story gained traction, the Ministry launched an investigation into the incident, with reports confirming the bizarre nature of the demands made by Monze.

In light of the findings, President Hichilema acted swiftly, removing Monze from her post. However, new reports have emerged casting doubt on the veracity of the claims. A Zambian living in South Africa has come forward, suggesting that the allegations against Monze may have been exaggerated or fabricated as part of a political smear campaign. The individual claimed that the entire episode could have been orchestrated by Monze’s rivals, leading to her dismissal.
Despite these conflicting views, the situation has left a significant mark on Zambia’s diplomatic reputation. Many are now questioning the behavior and professionalism of the country’s diplomats, as this incident raises concerns about the conduct of those representing Zambia abroad.
