In a statement issued yesterday, the District Security Director announced the prohibition of a public meeting scheduled for September 20, 2024, associated with Member of Parliament Tundu Lissu.
This ban has been enacted due to security concerns, particularly in light of the announcement by leaders of the Civic United Front (CHADEMA) regarding plans for large-scale demonstrations on September 23, 2024, in Dar es Salaam.
In a letter referenced 25/MHCDM924, the Director explained that the public meeting was suspected to be a preparation for the forthcoming demonstrations. He further indicated that available information suggests that this meeting could lead to disturbances of peace and jeopardize the safety of citizens and their property.
According to the law, the Director has invoked his authority under Section 44 of the Police Force and Auxiliary Police Act to prevent the meeting. Additionally, he warned that any violation of this directive would constitute a criminal offense, and those involved would face legal action under Section 45 of the same law.

As the political climate in the country grows increasingly tense, this ban highlights how authorities are managing meetings and demonstrations linked to opposition parties while emphasizing the importance of maintaining public peace and safety.
Preparations for the anticipated demonstrations will continue to address various issues facing the nation, as the public awaits to see the steps that CHADEMA leaders will take.
