Tanzania and the United States have held high-level talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in defense, security, trade, and investment, with the Tanzanian government calling for the removal of visa restrictions affecting Tanzanian citizens traveling to the U.S.
The discussions brought together Tanzania’s Minister for Defence and National Service, Dr. Rhimo Nyansaho, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and an 11-member delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives representing both the Democratic and Republican parties.
The U.S. delegation was led by Ronny Jackson, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Military Services, Defense, and Security. The meeting was held at the former Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) Headquarters at Ngome Upanga in Dar es Salaam.

According to a statement issued by Tanzania’s Ministry of Defence and National Service, the two sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, defense and security, as well as peace and stability in the East and Central African regions.
During the talks, the Tanzanian government urged the United States to ease visa restrictions for Tanzanian citizens, saying such a move would facilitate travel for businesspeople, investors, students, and other travelers seeking opportunities in the United States.
The U.S. delegation reaffirmed its commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Tanzania and identified liquefied natural gas (LNG), critical minerals, aviation, and defense as priority sectors with significant investment potential.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations while enhancing cooperation on regional security, trade, and investment for the mutual benefit of Tanzania and the United States.
