President Samia Suluhu Hassan has hailed the lasting vision of Tanzania’s founding father, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, underscoring her government’s efforts to translate his principles into tangible development.

Speaking on the 26th anniversary of Nyerere’s passing, she emphasized the importance of unity, self-reliance, and inclusive growth as the foundation for the nation’s continued progress.

“Reflecting on the life of Baba wa Taifa, we see a leader whose philosophy and ideals continue to guide us. All meaningful development must aim to improve people’s lives, and this is why our policies and plans focus on building a self-reliant nation with an inclusive economy,” President Samia said.

Highlighting major milestones, the president pointed to the successful implementation of strategic infrastructure projects that resonate with Nyerere’s vision. The Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project, which generates over 2,000 megawatts of electricity, has eliminated long-standing power shortages and laid a foundation for industrial growth and improved living standards.

Additionally, the relocation of government offices to Dodoma has strengthened administrative efficiency, while ongoing water projects, including the Same-Mwanga-Korogwe Water Project and the Mkomazi and Kidunda Dams, aim to address water scarcity in coastal and inland regions, supporting both urban and rural communities.

The planned Nyerere Memorial Centre in Dodoma is envisioned as a hub for education, culture, and public engagement, celebrating the life and achievements of the nation’s founding father and inspiring future generations.

While celebrating these accomplishments, President Samia acknowledged ongoing challenges and the need for continued vigilance and innovation. She called on all Tanzanians to uphold Nyerere’s values of integrity, service, and social justice, ensuring that development remains people-centered and sustainable.

Through these efforts, Tanzania continues to honor the legacy of Mwalimu Nyerere, blending visionary leadership with practical initiatives that strengthen the nation, empower its citizens, and chart a course toward a prosperous and self-reliant future.
