Members of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Public Investments (PIC), led by Chairman Hon. Deus Sangu, have visited and inspected the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) III Projects (Phase II) in Masware village, Babati district council, Manyara region, and later Miswakini Juu village in Monduli district council, and praised REA for its effectiveness in coordinating and managing the distribution of electricity to rural residents.

Speaking after the inspection of these projects, PIC Chairman Hon. Sangu commended REA for efficiently overseeing the task of ensuring that electricity reaches all villages. He added that previously, this task seemed challenging and unlikely to be completed on time. By March 2024, 11,837 villages have been reached with electricity, compared to the 12,318 villages on the mainland of Tanzania. This figure represents 96 percent of the target.

Initially, PIC members visited Masware village, including the Masware health center, where they witnessed how villagers benefit from electricity in healthcare services and the processing of agricultural products in a small grain processing plant in the village.

The committee also visited Miswakini Juu village and Miswakini Secondary School in Monduli district council, where electricity services have been extended to the school. However, the Director-General of REA, Engineer Hassan Saidy, informed the committee members that Manyara region has a total of 441 villages, out of which 420 villages have already been electrified. Fourteen villages are in the final testing phase before being connected anytime soon. Additionally, only seven villages remain to be electrified before June 2024.
