Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has taken firm action against public officials and employees implicated in a significant embezzlement scandal involving TZS 165.6 million.
Four officials from Kigamboni Municipal Council and four employees from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) unit, under the President’s Office, Regional Administration, and Local Government (TAMISEMI), are set to face immediate prosecution following an investigation into their alleged involvement in misappropriating the funds.
The Prime Minister’s directive also includes the suspension of Annie Nyabugumba Maugo, an employee of the Treasury Single Account unit, who was found to have played a central role in facilitating the unauthorized transfer of funds from TAMISEMI to the Kigamboni Municipal Council. This transfer, according to Majaliwa, was done without adhering to established financial protocols.
During his address today, Sunday, October 6, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, Majaliwa spoke directly to employees of Kigamboni Municipal Council, stressing the gravity of the situation. He underscored the importance of accountability and transparency in the management of public resources, particularly in the face of such a large-scale financial scandal.
The investigation, initiated by the Prime Minister through a special task force, was supplemented by an audit conducted by the Controller and Auditor General (CAG). The findings revealed that the officials had been misusing the Treasury Single Account to conceal the embezzled funds, a direct violation of the account’s intended purpose. The misuse of public funds, Majaliwa said, is a betrayal of the trust placed in public servants, and the government will not tolerate any form of corruption or malfeasance.
Majaliwa further assured the public that all individuals involved in the embezzlement would face the full force of the law, emphasizing that the government remains committed to upholding justice. He warned other public servants that similar actions would be taken against anyone found engaging in unethical practices.

The Prime Minister’s directive comes as part of a broader effort by the government to crack down on corruption within public institutions, ensuring that public funds are used for their intended purposes and that those entrusted with managing these resources are held to the highest standards of accountability.
This decisive action serves as a warning to all public servants that the government will not hesitate to act swiftly and firmly to protect the interests of the people and maintain the integrity of its institutions.
