Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has assured citizens that he remains in good health, firmly rejecting social media rumors claiming that he had passed away.

The retired leader spoke on Friday, October 10, 2025, during a lively campaign rally held at Mwakalenge Grounds in Bagamoyo, where he joined supporters backing the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi.

The event drew a large crowd from Bagamoyo and Chalinze constituencies in the Coast Region. Kikwete, who served as the nation’s fourth-phase president from 2005 to 2015, took to the stage with his characteristic humor and energy, quickly putting an end to the speculation about his health.

“Some people are saying I am dead,” he said, smiling as the crowd erupted in laughter. “But I am strong and healthy. Those who wish me harm will go before me — and I will attend their funerals.”

His bold words drew cheers and applause, reaffirming his enduring popularity and charisma. The former leader, who hails from Msoga Village in Chalinze, reminded supporters that his political legacy remains grounded in service and the fulfillment of promises made to Tanzanians.

Kikwete praised the ruling party’s achievements, highlighting progress in infrastructure, education, and health. He emphasized that the manifesto continues to serve as a clear roadmap for Tanzania’s development — both at the national and local levels.

“Bagamoyo has remained a stronghold because promises have been delivered,” he said. “Our journey is not yet complete. There is still more to be done, but good things are happening, and we must build on that.”

His remarks came amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2025 Tanzanian general election scheduled for later this month. Analysts say his appearance was a strategic move to energize the party’s base and demonstrate unity at a time when misinformation and social media rumors have become increasingly common in political discourse.

Throughout his speech, Kikwete’s tone balanced humor, authority, and reassurance — a mix that reminded many why he remains one of Tanzania’s most respected political figures. By addressing the rumors head-on, he not only silenced speculation but also showed that he remains an influential voice within the party.
