The Tanzanian government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the 70-kilometre Kibaoni–Sitalike Road in Katavi Region, saying the project will play a key role in boosting economic activities and expanding trade opportunities in the Southern Highlands.
Minister for Works Abdallah Ulega made the remarks while inspecting the progress of construction works on the road, assuring residents that the government would continue allocating and releasing funds on time to ensure the project is completed according to the required standards and within the planned timeframe.
“I assure residents that we will pay the contractor working on the Kibaoni–Sitalike Road soon so that he can continue with the work. The government will continue ensuring that funds are available for the project to be completed,” Ulega said.
He said completion of the road would improve the transportation of passengers and goods, connect production areas to markets and create more opportunities for businesses in Katavi and neighbouring regions.

Ulega added that the improved road network would also contribute to strengthening economic ties with neighbouring countries by facilitating the movement of people and goods across the region.
The minister also revealed that the government has already paid 4 billion Tanzanian shillings for the construction of the Mpanda–Kigoma Road.
He directed the contractor to accelerate the completion of the Mnyamasi Bridge to improve the use of the road and prevent disruptions, particularly during the rainy season.
“We want the Mnyamasi Bridge to be completed quickly so that residents and other road users do not face difficulties during the rainy season. Project supervisors must remain firm and ensure that the work is carried out with speed and efficiency,” Ulega said.
The government has continued to prioritise road infrastructure development as part of efforts to improve transportation, strengthen trade links and stimulate economic growth across the country.
