45 students from Mvumi Mission Secondary School in Dodoma were rushed to Mvumi Mission Hospital after consuming what is believed to be contaminated food.
The incident occurred Today Tuesday afternoon, February 11, 2025.
Dr. Albert Chalinze, the Medical Officer in charge at Mvumi Mission Hospital, confirmed that the hospital received the students, many of whom were treated and discharged. However, 21 students remain under close observation. “The affected students were brought in for treatment, and most of them have been cleared and allowed to go home. But some are still being closely monitored to ensure their health stabilizes,” Dr. Chalinze stated.
The incident has raised concerns among parents and the local community, as there has been no official confirmation of what caused the mass food poisoning.

Authorities are investigating the matter, including testing the food that was served to the students.
The school has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but it is understood that the food was prepared on campus for the students’ lunch. Students who fell ill exhibited symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps shortly after consuming the meal.
Parents have expressed their anxiety, with some gathering at the hospital to check on their children. The hospital has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the students’ well-being.
