Former Simiyu Regional  Commissioner, Dr. Yahya Nawanda  has been detained by the Mwanza Regional Police on suspicion of sodomizing a university student, as announced today by Mwanza Regional Police Commander Wilbroad Mutafungwa.

Dr. Nawanda is being held for questioning while investigations are ongoing. Police have impounded the vehicle believed to have been used during the incident.

The encounter between Dr. Nawanda and the university student came to light through sources reported earlier this week.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan revoked Dr. Nawanda’s appointment as Regional Commissioner for Simiyu following the allegations.

According to sources, Dr. Nawanda allegedly initiated a relationship with the student in January 2024 in Mwanza.
