In response to heightened security concerns, authorities in the city of Goma, located in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have implemented a ban on vehicles with tinted glass. The decision comes as part of efforts to enhance security measures and address potential threats in the region.

The ban, which was announced by local officials, prohibits the use of vehicles with tinted windows within the city limits of Goma. This measure aims to improve visibility and transparency, allowing law enforcement agencies to better monitor activities and enhance public safety.

“Following alerts and reports from special services, vehicles with tinted glasses constitute a source of insecurity in the city of Goma,” said Peter Chirimwami, military governor of the province.

According to him, a period of 72 hours is granted to owners of vehicles to comply with the regulation.

The security situation remains volatile around Goma, with fighting between the DRC military and the March 23 Movement (M23) rebellion, with the latter having recently launched multiple offensives against military positions.

Security alerts in the region have prompted authorities to take proactive steps to prevent any potential security risks. By restricting vehicles with tinted glass, officials hope to deter criminal activities and improve surveillance capabilities to safeguard residents and visitors in Goma.

The implementation of this ban underscores the commitment of local authorities to prioritize security and maintain peace in the city. Residents and vehicle owners are urged to comply with the new regulation to support efforts aimed at ensuring a safe environment for all individuals in Goma.

As the situation continues to evolve, authorities remain vigilant and proactive in their approach to addressing security challenges in the region. The ban on vehicles with tinted glass is just one of the many measures being taken to strengthen security measures and maintain order in DRC’s Goma city.
