During the visit, he noted that the Kidatu plant has been operational since 1975 and is now marking 50 years of service. He directed TANESCO to conduct a feasibility study and renovate the facility to maintain its efficiency in power generation.

At the site, Dr. Kazungu inspected Unit 2, which has been undergoing renovations since May 2024 and is expected to be completed by January 2025. He instructed TANESCO to closely monitor the contractor to ensure the work is completed on time and that the unit integrates seamlessly with other operational units, increasing the plant’s generation capacity.

The Kidatu Hydropower Project Manager, Engineer Manfred Lucas, assured that TANESCO will continue to maintain the plant’s infrastructure in excellent condition, ensuring consistent operations to contribute sufficient power to the national grid. This effort aligns with the Sixth Phase Government’s vision of fostering individual and national economic growth.
