Approximately six individuals are feared dead and one body recovered after a boat carrying passengers capsized on Lake Victoria.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 15, 2024, while the passengers were returning from a wedding in Mwiruruma area, Ilamba Ward, Bunda District, Mara Region.
Bunda District Commissioner Dr. Vincent Naano has confirmed the incident and is currently en route to the scene. Dr. Naano reported that the boat was carrying 16 people. Following the accident, nine individuals were rescued alive, and one body was recovered, but six others remain unaccounted for.

“The search is ongoing for the six missing individuals. One body has been recovered, and nine people have been rescued alive. I am currently on my way to the scene,” said Dr. Naano.
The authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the missing passengers and provide assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
