A major blood donation campaign is currently underway in Arusha, led by the non-profit organization Who Is Hussain. The initiative aims to secure 2,400 donors to help meet the annual regional demand of 18,851 liters of blood. This effort is crucial in ensuring a steady supply for the Arusha Referral Hospital, which serves as a primary healthcare facility for the region.

The campaign includes eye screenings and is a significant step towards addressing the healthcare needs of the community. During the campaign launch, Regional Medical Officer Dr. Omary Chande praised Who Is Hussain for its consistent support through blood donations. He emphasized the critical role of blood supply in supporting vulnerable groups such as expectant mothers, children, and accident victims. Dr. Chande noted that such initiatives are vital in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and improving overall healthcare outcomes in the region.

Warda Kaita, Coordinator for Blood Transfusion Services in Arusha, highlighted the pressing need for blood in the region. She stated that the annual requirement of 18,851 liters translates to approximately 1,576 bottles of blood each month. The primary beneficiaries of these donations are expectant mothers and accident victims, underscoring the importance of maintaining a robust blood bank to handle emergencies and routine medical procedures.

Who Is Hussain, recognized globally for its humanitarian efforts, has been instrumental in organizing blood donation drives worldwide. Their campaigns have significantly impacted healthcare systems by providing essential blood supplies for various medical procedures, including emergency transfusions, surgeries, and treatments for patients with blood disorders and cancer. Notably, their Global Blood Heroes initiative in August 2022 mobilized over 37,000 donors in a single day, saving more than 110,000 lives.

The Arusha campaign is part of a broader effort to encourage voluntary blood donations and ensure medical facilities have the resources needed to save lives. By participating in these initiatives, donors contribute to their communities and promote a culture of selflessness and compassion, embodying the humanitarian spirit of the organization.

Who Is Hussain continues to inspire individuals to become regular blood donors, emphasizing the significant impact a single donation can have. With numerous volunteer teams organizing blood donation drives, the organization aims to break records and expand its reach further. Teams in countries like Lebanon, Australia, and Uganda have already set national records, showcasing the global solidarity in this life-saving mission.
