Tanzania received a second Boeing 737-MAX 9 aircraft, registered as 5H-TCQ, expanding its fleet.

The new aircraft was welcomed at Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) on March 26, 2024, with a reception that included a traditional water cannon salute.

Captains Mbarouk Mohammed Suleiman and Mushi Herman Cyril of Air Tanzania conducted the ferry flight t of the 737-9 from Seattle, USA to Tanzania.

This latest delivery marks the completion of the 737-MAX order that was placed at the 2021 Dubai Airshow.

The 737-9 has a capacity of 181 passengers in a typical business and economy class configuration and can travel up to 3,250 nautical miles (Nm), potentially opening new route possibilities for Air Tanzania.

Currently, Air Tanzania’s Boeing fleet comprises two 787-8s, one 737-MAX 9 (delivered in October 2023), and a dedicated Boeing 767-300 freighter .The airline anticipates adding a 787-8 Dreamliner to its fleet by the year-end.

In line with its fleet expansion, the airline is also broadening its network, with new flight to Dubai UAE, commencing on March 31, 2024.
