Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, has strongly condemned the circulation of unverified and misleading information, warning that such behavior has reached a level that harms and unsettles citizens.
Speaking at a public rally on 21 November 2025 at Bombadia Grounds in Singida Urban Council, Dr. Nchemba said Tanzanians have been negatively affected by the widespread acceptance of unverified claims. “People have been deeply misled. Some believe they have divine authority, that they are always right, and that anyone who disagrees is wrong or evil. Citizens have suffered because they accept everything they hear without question,” he explained.
The Prime Minister highlighted the dangers of spreading false information, particularly on social media, giving a recent example of claims that vehicles destroyed in a fire belonged to his wife and were named “Ester.” Dr. Nchemba clarified that his wife’s real name is Neema and was present with him at the time, emphasizing that such misinformation can cause unnecessary confusion and distress.
“Nowadays, people are no longer afraid to fabricate stories about others. Some even make false claims without bothering to verify facts. For example, it was said that vehicles destroyed recently were my wife’s property and called ‘Ester.’ My wife’s name is Neema, and she was with me today,” he stated.

He also dismissed rumors suggesting that the property might belong to his mother, providing clarity about her identity. “They say, ‘if not the wife’s, it must be the mother’s.’ My mother is a Muslim named Asha Ramadhan Omary. Do you not know her? She is here,” he emphasized.
Analysts note that Dr. Nchemba’s remarks highlight the critical importance of media literacy and the dangers of misinformation in influencing public perception and social stability. By addressing these issues directly, the Prime Minister aims to reinforce responsible information sharing and critical thinking among citizens.
