By appealing to citizens’ sense of ownership, the Prime Minister reinforced the idea that protecting infrastructure and social order is a shared duty.

Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, has urged citizens to safeguard peace and protect the country’s infrastructure, emphasizing that these assets are the property of all Tanzanians, built with public resources.

Speaking during a working visit to Ikungi in Singida region on 21 November 2025, Dr. Nchemba highlighted the responsibility of every citizen to nurture and preserve the nation. “God has blessed us with a beautiful country. We must protect it. Even the infrastructure belongs to Tanzanians. There is no such thing as ‘government money’; all resources used to build these facilities come from you. Damaging them is ultimately harming yourself,” he said.

The Prime Minister also warned against heeding inflammatory messages propagated by individuals who are largely abroad and will not face the consequences of the actions they promote. “Many who loudly demand, ‘destroy your country,’ are not here. They live elsewhere. How can they tell you to harm your nation when they remain in their own? Which country will you turn to?” he asked.

Observers note that Dr. Nchemba’s remarks stress the importance of civic responsibility in sustaining national peace and promoting development. By appealing to citizens’ sense of ownership, the Prime Minister reinforced the idea that protecting infrastructure and social order is a shared duty.

Experts say the speech also underscores the significance of political accountability, as citizens are encouraged to critically assess guidance from both domestic and foreign actors. Leaders like Dr. Nchemba emphasize vigilance against misinformation and manipulation that could destabilize communities.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the value of public infrastructure as a foundation for economic growth, social services, and long-term development. Roads, schools, hospitals, and other facilities, he explained, are essential for the well-being of all Tanzanians and must be preserved for future generations.

The visit to Ikungi is part of a broader effort by the government to engage communities, encourage dialogue, and reinforce national cohesion. By combining practical guidance with moral appeal, Dr. Nchemba sought to remind citizens that every individual plays a critical role in maintaining peace and stability.
