The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly is currently underway in New York, bringing together leaders, diplomats, and experts to discuss some of the world’s most urgent challenges.
Among the key topics on the agenda is the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and its implications for security, ethics, and international governance.
During the session, leaders highlighted both the promise and the risks of AI technologies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a warning that unregulated AI-driven military systems could escalate conflicts globally. He stressed that the international community must act swiftly to develop safeguards, noting that technology like autonomous drones and AI-powered weapon systems could trigger unprecedented arms races.
The UN Secretary-General echoed these concerns, calling for global cooperation to ensure AI technologies are developed responsibly. He emphasized the need for international norms and agreements to prevent misuse, protect civilians, and preserve stability worldwide.

In parallel, the Global AI Summit brought together policymakers, tech experts, and economists to discuss the social and economic impact of AI. Delegates also explored the ethical dimension of AI deployment. Questions were raised about accountability, transparency, and human oversight in AI-driven systems. Experts urged that ethical frameworks should be integrated into both public policy and private sector innovation, ensuring that AI serves humanity rather than undermining it.
Beyond security and ethics, the assembly examined AI’s potential to address global challenges in healthcare, climate action, and education. By fostering collaboration between countries and sharing best practices, participants hope to harness AI as a tool for sustainable development while minimizing its risks.
